Let's Draw Arthur!

We have been reading sets of directions, and following the directions in order to complete a task.

We have identified things that can be added to directions in order to make them easier to understand and follow.

Today, we will visit two different web sites that ask us to complete the same task and see which set of directions is better.

Get ready! Get set! Start drawing Arthur!!

First, visit http://tiger.towson.edu/~mgalla1/readtoperform.htm .  Follow the directions to draw Arthur.

As you complete the task, think about these two questions, then respond to them in your reading journal.  Remember to answer the questions using complete sentences:

1.  These directions were (easy, hard) to follow because________________________.

2.  What would you add to make them easier to follow?

Now that you have drawn Arthur, try again!

This time visit http://pbskids.org/arthur/print/letsdrawarthur/printable.html .  Follow the directions on this site to complete the task on the next page of your reading journal.

After you’re done drawing your second Arthur, answer these questions in your reading journal.  Remember answer these questions using complete sentences:

1. These directions were (easier or harder) than the first because _______________.

2. Which set of directions was better?  Be sure to explain your choice.
