Student Publishing

 

 

All students at <school> are encouraged in creative expression—writing, painting, photography, etc.  It is the school’s policy to encourage students to submit their original works for review and publication on the school’s website, in print publications such as the school newsletter or yearbook, or another appropriate medium and location, such as online publishers.

 

The following guidelines have been adopted for publishing student work.  Please carefully read them and sign below giving or declining permission to publish.

 

 

If you have questions concerning this policy, please contact your child’s teacher.

Student Publishing Links

 

KidsBookshelf accepts submissions of artwork, poetry, book reviews and short stories.  They only show student’s first name and age are identified.  The site publishes works of children under the age of 17.  There is no critique of submissions, but all submissions are reviewed to be sure that content criteria are met.  There is a link for visitors to write their favorite authors in care of the publisher.  No personal information is shared with anyone.

White Barn Press accepts submissions from authors and teachers of all ages.  They also provide resources for teachers.  Authors under the age of 18 are only identified by first name and last initial.  Authors must provide authorization via email for White Barn Press to publish their submissions; White Barn retains the right to edit content, but will contact the authors for approval of changes.  Submitters under the age of 18 must have appropriate permission.

Writing with Writers provides children the opportunity to take workshops with authors in various genres.  The workshops can be skipped if desires.  All submissions are checked for appropriate content and appropriate language; Scholastic reserves the right to edit.  Not all submissions are published.  http://teacher.scholastic.com/writewit/index.htm

 

 

Kids.com gives kids the chance to write a story based on a particular character, prop, and place.  Selections are randomly drawn and posted for readers’ votes.  Not all work will be published, but this site really shows how given the same information, people will come up with different ideas.  Only first name and age are used to identify the authors.

Potluck Children’s Literary Magazine is for young writers and artists ready to take things a bit farther in the world of publishing.  This is a print magazine, with selections available for online review.  Not all submissions are published, but all are evaluated.   Submissions not accepted for publication are commented on.  They provide very clear guidelines and criteria for submitted work.  Submissions can be made online.  Contributors are identified by full name and age.
