Newsletters
There are so many newsletters out there that I had to stop searching, or I’d never be able to read all of the ones that I’d be subscribing to. After reviewing the sites recommended in the assignment, I did a search for newsletters pertaining to speech pathology. I did find several of particular interest to me, and subscribed to three—two pertaining to speech therapy and one to early childhood education. Each of the newsletters provided unsubscribe information, which I plan to retain in separate folders dedicated to the newsletters.
Education World I subscribed to the Early Childhood Education newsletter. Since I am being considered for a position in an early childhood program, I felt that this would be helpful. I viewed the sample available—the topic was math. Since I’m mathematically challenged, it was a good fit. I followed a few of the links and had fun playing some number games. The activities in the newsletter were appropriate to the age level and would hold children’s interest. The newsletter is sent monthly, which will help keep mailbox clutter down. Each month has a different theme focus, which makes it easy to save and refer back to the issue/links in the future. I’m sure that I will benefit from this subscription; there is already some information I’m going to pass on to my niece to use with her children. When I actually start working in the school system, I may subscribe to the humor newsletter.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) offers several newsletters; I signed up for the Access Schools newsletter. This newsletter is geared to the speech/language pathologist working in schools. Since this is a career path I am seriously considering, I believe that this will be very helpful to me. A lot of the articles in this newsletter are restricted to members of ASHA, but there are enough that will give me a good understanding of the issues in the field. The newsletter is published every other month; the next issue will be sent in August.

Speechtx.com offers a newsletter has articles of interest to speech therapists, and others. The newsletter offers links to other sites with helpful information as well as their featured articles. I think that the combination of the ASHA newsletter and this one will give me a good balance of theory and practice, as well as a file of resources.
