Security Tips:
1. There is a very easy way to find out if the site that you are shopping on is secure. This was new information to me. If the website doesn’t have the automatic pop up window that tells you they are a secure site, you can look at the web address for the page that requires your credit card information. The web address will change from http: to https: to let you know that they are using Secure Sockets Layer technology.
2. Passwords should be different when you are shopping. Don’t make passwords the same for shopping and important things like banking. SafeShopping.org gives us a great idea on how to make passwords. They say to make an acronym out of a song title and add some numbers on the end. For example, the password would be TWOTB96, coming from The Wheels on the Bus and 1996 because that was the year I started teaching elementary school.
