Introduction:
When an author is
thinking about writing a novel or short story, they have to organize themselves
first. It is extremely important to have an idea of what is going to happen in
your story and who is going to take part in it. The basic 5 Ws and How are the easiest questions to ask yourself when
organizing before writing.
Assignment:
You are going to
start the writing process today by brainstorming ideas for your story. Go to
the following website and read about the creative writing process. Follow the
links from the home page. There is a wealth of information on this site. Make
yourself familiar with writing process.

Activity:
Now that you have
read the information from Mr. Kirby’s website, you should be ready to get
started. The first thing an author has to do is come up with a topic or plot
line and then organize their thoughts.
You are to pick a
topic or create a plot line in your mind. Then make a chart, like the on the
next page, to organize your thoughts. Answer the basic story starter questions
of who, what, where, when, why, and how.
Once you have
finished organizing your thoughts, you may start writing the first draft of
your story.
