Web Dropin #3 for Jody Welin
Introduction: Today you will
learn about the major parts that make up a story’s plot. The plot is what is
actually happening in the story, the chain of events. Some call the plot the
“story line”. A novel or short story may have one or more plots happening at
the same time.
Assignment: In this
assignment you will learn the parts of plot and then chart the plot of 2
stories that we have read in class. Be sure to identify the major parts of the
plot. Those parts are exposition, conflicts (complications), climax, and
resolution.
Please go to http://www.learner.org/exhibits/literature/read/plot1.html
and read “The Elements of Plot Development”. You are to then click on the link
titled “What Goes into a Plot” to learn about each part of a plot specifically.
Make sure that you are confident with your understanding of each element of a
plot.
Activity: Revisit the stories listed below. Pick 2 of
your favorites. Then fill out the following plot charts, one for each story.
Make sure that you fill in all areas completely and clearly.
Stories:
Adoption of Albert
The Secret of the Wall
Cricket in the Road
Aaron’s Gift
Nadia the Willful
When you are finished, please turn the plot charts in for grading.
