Web Dropin #1 for Jody Welin

Introduction: When an author begins writing a story, there are many things that they need to decide before they start. One of those things is deciding which point of view they are going to use.  As a reader, you can discover which point of view the author used by simply asking yourself,”Who is telling me the story?”

Assignment: In this assignment you are going to discover all the different points of view an author can choose from for their writings. You will then decide which point of view was used in different literary works that we have read.

Please go to http://www.learner.org/exhibits/literature/read/pov1.html and read the information they have provided. You will need to click on the “Types of Point of View” link after you have read the first page. Make sure that you are well-informed on the different point of views and able to recognize them in literary works.

Questions:

  1. Which point of view did Wilson Rawls use in Where the Red Fern Grows? What are the clues that help you decide this?
  2. Which point of view did Scott O’Dell use when writing Island of the Blue Dolphin? How were you able to recognize this point of view?
  3. Name a novel or short story we have read that would fit under the Omniscient point of view. Explain why you have chosen that piece of literature.
  4. Name a novel or short story we have read that would fit under the Limited Omniscient point of view. Explain why you have chosen that piece of literature.
  5. Name a novel or short story we have read that would fit under the Objective point of view. Explain why you have chosen that piece of literature.

Please write your answers on a separate sheet of paper and turn in for grading.
