Below is a list of websites that can be used by 3rd grade students to practice skills and gather information based on the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum and  Anne Arundel County Public Schools Curriculum.  These sites are broken into the areas of Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Cross Curriculum.  If used correctly, these sites can help make learning fun and exciting for students of all ability levels!

Math

A+ Math

A+ Math is a great interactive site where students can go to improve their math skills.  It has a Flashcard section where students can practice math facts.  It also has a Flashcard Creator where students can create and print their own set of flashcards to practice with.  Check out the Homework Helper section to check answers to those tricky homework problems.  Don't forget to stop by the Game Room for some extra math fun!

AAA Know Math Third Grade

This is a great site designed just for 3rd graders!  Students can pick from a wide range of math topics.  Each topic gives explanations and examples of how to work those kinds of problems and then gives students a chance to apply what they have learned.  This page is for the serious learner, straight forward information, no flashy distracters!

Cool Math

Cool Math is a site that works to make math fun!  The site is bold and catches your attention.  Lessons and examples are clear and it gives students the opportunity to try problems on their own when the lesson is complete.  The Math Games link adds to the fun!

Kids Numbers.com

Kids Numbers is a great site for practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.  Once the student picks the operation that they want to practice, they are given a variety of game options to choose from.  There is something for everyone.  This site has a timed option also to help students master their facts quickly.  There is also a calculator link where students can practice using the calculator right on the screen!

Brain Teasers

Ready for a challenge?  Check out the question of the week on Brian Teasers.  This sites posts a question for grades 3-4 weekly and then shares the results at the end of the week.  See if you can solve the teaser!  Check out the Archive link to see past questions and answers.

Language Arts

Internet 4 Classrooms

This site has a large variety of activities focusing on reading, writing, and elements of language. This site is based on Tennessee Curriculum standards, but there is a lot of great information that can be used to practice for the  Maryland State Assessment.  There is something in here for everyone!  Students can review a skill that they  have already talked about in class, or check out something new.  The possibilities are endless!

Kids' Lab Grade 3

This site provides online tutorials with the opportunity to practice specific or mixed skills.  Students can use the menu to select the area they want to practice and take off! The context clues, main idea, and compare and contrast activities provide great MSA practice!  Students will enjoy the interesting reading selections.

Starfall

Starfall is a great site for 3rd grade ESOL students or students who just want some extra practice reading.  Students begin by choosing what reading level they are comfortable with.  Each section gives a great selection of interesting and interactive stories to read.  Make sure your sound is up, your headphones are on, and enjoy reading!

Social Studies

 

Social Studies for Kids

Social Studies for Kids focuses on many areas of Social Studies including Economics, Geography/Maps, and Government.  Students can use the links on the side toolbar to navigate to their area of interest.  These links will take them to article sites that describe each topic and give examples to help them gain a better understanding of each area.  Check out the Fun Facts section and see what you can find out!

Econolopis

Take an interactive journey through Econopoplis!  This page was designed to give students a better understanding about economics.  Students will join the  host Mega Money, an adventurous dollar sign, and his friends Bill the horse and Dollar the dog.  They will use the game board at the beginning of the page to find their way through Econopolis.  Encourage students to try the quizzes at the end of each section to see how much they have learned!  What a fun journey!

First Americans

Students can use this site to learn about the Navajo, Creek, Tingit, Sioux, and Iroquois tribes.  By navigating through this site students can find out what it was like to be a Native American.   They can learn about the food, clothing, and homes of each tribe.  This site also includes activities and a gallery of photos to further enhance the students understanding.

Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids

This is a great kid-friendly site for students to use to learn about how the U.S. government works.  Third graders primarily focus on Anne Arundel County government, but this could give them a good background of how the United States Government works as a whole.  The Your Neighborhood and Beyond link and the Our Nation link give students great facts to help them understand the set up of the United States as we venture into Maryland and Anne Arundel County.

Maryland Kids Page

An abundant resource of information for learning about Maryland Geography and Anne Arundel County Government.  This site has lots of interesting facts and photographs to display information.  Includes a lot of links to explore and even a Maryland quiz!  Incorporate Language Arts by having your students check out the Maryland Authors link!

Science

Macmillan McGraw-Hill Science

This is the website for the Macmillan McGraw-Hill Science textbook that AACPS students are currently using.  This site is a wonderful resource .  It has useful links for each chapter as well as lesson summaries, quizzes, and interactive e-Journal activities.  A great supplement to textbook use in the classroom!

Welcome to Recycle City

Sponsored by the EPA, this is a great site to get students thinking about protecting the environment.  It has lots of facts and activities to get students motivated about recycling.  Take a trip into Recycle City and see how the residents Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.  Encourage students to try some of these ways on their own!

Tooned In School Menu

This is a neat site to get students motivated to eat a  healthy diet.  On this site students learn about the Food Pyramid Guide and ways to incorporate it into their diet.  There are interactive games as well as quick tips on how to eat right.  You might even learn something new about eating healthy yourself!

Cross Curriculum

I know that.com has a great 3rd Grade Activities section.  There are resources to enhance student learning in all content areas.  My students particularly like the Geometry Workshop where they can practice recognizing geometric shapes and identifying slides, flips, and turns.   Students can also use this site to compose their own music!  There is something for every interest on this site.

Digger and the Gang

This is a great site where students can discover math, English, and science.  Students can explore age level activities with Digger the dog and his gang members Nash, Sprat, and Flick.  Each group member focuses on a different age level.  This site enables students to pick activities based on their age or their development level.  Activities can be used to reinforce and challenge.

Funbrain

Funbrain is yet another great site for math and reading enhancement.  Students have many games to choose from and can also access web books and comics.  Like many of the cross curriculum sites, students can choose their grade level.  My students enjoyed using Funbrain's Measurement It section to practice their measurement skills.  Their Fun Blog section also gives students a chance to explore topics of interest based on their sex and age range.

Enchanted Learning

Enchanted learning is known for producing educational web sites designed to capture student's imaginations while maximizing their creativity, learning, and enjoyment.  This site has an overwhelming amount of resources (19.000 web pages to be exact) and activities for all levels.  Students can explore many different subjects and even print out activity sheets that support that topic.  For $20.00 per year members can access advertisement free sites and have access to even more print friendly activities.
