Virtual Field Trip

                         

In 3rd grade we are studying landforms.  What better way to learn about the Earth's landforms than to visit them!  Sit back and relax as we travel to Glacier National Park,  Mt. Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument, Grand Mesa National Park, and Pikes Peak.

 

Glacier National Park

Our first stop is Glacier National Park which is located in Northwestern Montana on the United States and Canada Border.  Through this site you can learn about the past history of Glacier National Park and go and a hiking tour by taking an eHike or an eTour.   You can also access a photo map where you can check out views from all over the park.  Below are a few of the sites that you might see.

Above is Mt. Reynolds it was formed from glaciers pushing on several sides of mountains.  As the glaciers pushed, it made large peaks sticking up.

This is Cracker Lake, it was formed by the melting waters of a glacier.

 

 

   

 

 

Mt. Saint Helens  National Volcanic Monument

Our next stop is Mt. Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument in the state of Washington.  Here you will be able to watch Volcanocam movies and access images of Mt. Saint Helens.  You will actually get to see Mt. Saint Helens as it is right now.  The Volcanocam updates every 5 minutes.

Grand Mesa National Park

Grand Mesa is located in Colorado and it is the world's largest flat top mountain or mesa.  It reaches heights of 11,000 feet!  This tour will let us explore Grand Mesa's make up, vegetation, and animals.  Below are some pictures of the Grand Mesa.

Pikes Peak

Did you know that the song "America the Beautiful" was written from atop Pikes Peak?  Wow! That must be a beautiful view!  Pikes Peak is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and is part of the Rocky Mountains.  Take a tour of Pikes Peak by clicking on the video link.  You will learn about the history of Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs.  Use the tool bar on the side to learn more about this breathtaking mountain.
