Ø   Rain Forest Web Link Bibliography - A list of great sites to use when learning about the rain forest.  There are some sites for kids and some sites for teachers!

Ø   Web Quest –Get Hooked on Poetry! Take the plunge and swim through this great quest for good poetry!

o    Web Quest Links - Some links for webquests I found that would be excellent resources for any third grade teacher!

 

Ø   Course Module #1Rubrics are one of the most useful assessment tools for teachers. Try out this module and create your own rubric!

 

Ø   Course Module #2 – How can Special teachers implement technology into their curriculum? Find some websites to integrate into their instruction.

 

Ø   Web Dropins

        

o    Dropin #1 -  A great activity for kids when learning about biographies.  Read about Walt Disney and answer questions, then create your own biography report.

 

o    Dropin #2Take a journey through space on this web dropin! Learn all about the different planets, then create a chart using the information learned.

 

o    Dropin #3 -  Learn more about thunderstorms! This dropin will take you to several sites to study and draw a diagram of how a thunderstorm develops.  You’ll also learn how lightning forms, and how to stay safe during a severe storm!

 

o    Dropin #4 – Compare several different types of service projects on this web dropin. Decide which service you think that you would like to do best.

 

o    Dropin #5 – Is there anything you think you love most in the world? Meet King Midas and John Midas, and learn what happened when they loved something TOO much.

 

Ø   Journal Article Reviews

        

o    Article #1 - Did you know that even you can do little things at school to save big-time energy costs? This article really opened my eyes to how much energy schools use, and what we can do to help conserve it.

        

o     Article #2 - Do you use email as much as I do to communicate and keep in touch with others? This article related to the love/hate relationship we all seem to have with email.

 

Ø   Search Engines Activity – How much time do YOU spend surfing on the internet? Click here to find out more on the best search engines to use.

 

Ø   Copyright Activity - Legal or illegal? Read the two scenarios and decide if you think the actions are allowable by law.

 

Ø   Activity Log & Article Citations – I kept track of these assignments by keeping a Log Book, and I have 5 additional articles cited.

ELECTIVES

 

 

Ø   Instruction

        

o    Citing Internet Sources – This assignment taught me a lot about how to cite references found on the Internet.  I found some sites that I felt were better to use as guidance than others.

        

o    School Library Media Sites – In this activity, I listed some of the criteria I believe should be included on a library media site.  I focused on the elementary school level, because I teach third grade.

 

o    Net Happenings – This elective is a list of the most useful sites which I use (and will use) a lot, in both teaching and in my personal use. It is similar to having a “Favorites” list on the Internet.

 

o    Lesson Plans – Here are some lesson plan sites I found—there are some great sources for any third grade teacher looking for ideas!

 

o    Teacher Sites – I found two teacher sites which I evaluated, giving commendations and recommendations for each.

 

Ø   Communication

        

o    Email Distribution Lists – For this assignment, I set up an email distribution list of my classmates in the Blue Group.

      

o    Instant Messaging – I opened an account through AOL with my own screen name—a great way to communicate with the professor and other classmates.

 

Ø   Utilities

        

o    Hoaxes & Myths – For this elective, I wrote an entry for the discussion thread located on Blackboard. It’s unbelievable how much “misinformation” is really out there!

 

o    Search Tips – Check out these handy tips to make searching the Internet easier!

 

Ø   Miscellaneous

        

o    Silicon Snake - For this activity, I read some excerpts from Clifford Stoll’s book Silicon Snake Oil:  Second Thoughts on the Information Superhighway.  I selected 5 points given in these excerpts and shared my views.

 

o    Spam – What is it? Is there anything you can do to prevent it? Read about it here.

 

 

Ø   Multimedia

        

o    Clip Art – For this elective, I searched the Internet for some really good sites to find clip art.  Check out the top sites I found, for a variety of uses.

        

o    Games Online – Have you played many games online? My third graders love to go online to play games, so I checked some of them out myself!
