EDUCATIONAL PORTALS

 

 

Objective:         Students will be able to identify educational portal websites and compare and contrast the sites they have explored.

 

Objective:         Students will compare and contrast in essay form the educational portal websites.

 

Introduction:     Useful information appears on the internet, but so does a lot of junk.  In

order to save educators time when surfing the net, it is important for them to know where educational portals are that will help their students learn.  These sites will also serve as a resource for parents.

 

Activity:            For this activity, look at the Educational Portals and Starting Points (http://eduscapes.com/tap/topic21.htm) web page to gain background information on this topic.

 

                        Click on various websites under the General Education Portals and Portals headings.  Also, view some of the sites under the Subject Area and Grade Level heading.

 

                        You can use a search engine to find other sites that are related to this topic if need be.

 

Assignment:      After viewing two or more portal websites; compare and contrast the portal websites in 300 words or more.  Be sure to include three or more comparisons to arrive at the conclusion of what portal you have decided to use. Rubric:             1 – Comparing two websites with only one piece of information compared.

                        2 – Comparing two or more websites with two pieces of information to compare.

                        3 – Comparing two websites with three pieces of information in a detailed essay.

                        4 – Comparing three or more websites with three or more pieces of information in a detailed essay.
