Health & Fitness
Health and fitness are very important aspects to every
physical educator’s curriculum. Not only
do physical education teachers plan a curriculum of sports and activity units,
most also teach many units on Health Education and Fitness and Wellness. This list of websites can be beneficial to
physical education or health teachers at any grade level and may also be
visited by fitness instructors and trainers as well. These websites are tailored to a wide
audience. Some are specific just to kids
and fitness, while others focus solely on pregnant women and fitness or just
men or women. Physical education teachers and fitness instructors will be
teaching a wide variety of people and these sites will provide the information
needed to fit their audience.

General Fitness
– This site is a general fitness website, geared at all classes of people. It
is a basic guide to a fitter lifestyle, mostly aimed at people just getting
started. It gives basic nutritional
information, workout routines, and dieting tips. It is not audience specific, in that, children,
men and women can all find useful information on this website. Last visited on
Men’s Fitness Magazine
– This is site for Men’s Fitness magazine.
The entire magazine is online and easily navigated. This website, is
obviously, geared toward men. There is
an option to subscribe to the magazine so that if one wants to get the
publication every month, rather than go online to read about men’s health, he
can do that. This site provides a very
in depth look at men’s nutrition, weight lifting, balance dieting, and
exercise. There is even an option of
buying sports gear right from the website.

Fitness Magazine – This magazine is the parallel to Men’s Fitness, but for
women. This is the coordinating website.
This site provides nutritional, training, and healthy eating information
for females. One can also subscribe to
this magazine online and buy “fitness wear.”
This website also features a chat room and question and answer section,
where women can ask experts about their health concerns. Last visited on

Exercise and
Health – This website is sponsored by The American Heart Association. It
has a variety of features to be utilized by anyone in the health, physical
education, and fitness fields. There are
links including an exercise diary, where one can keep track of his or her
exercise progress, a fitness resources link, where one can read frequently
asked health and exercise questions, and a “my fitness” link, where one can
determine which exercise routine is best for each individual. Last visited

This is an incredible resource for all physical education
and health teachers. There are an
abundance of links on this website, including, among others, those for
beginners, weight training, kinesiology, aerobic conditioning, and exercise and
sport psychology. The site also provides
very useful information about the seriousness of steroids in the sports arena,
and the importance of proper exercise habits.

Motion – This website, Bodies in Motion – Minds at Rest, is very beneficial
to teachers dealing with adolescent children and focuses on physical and mental
health. Smoking, drugs, and alcohol are issues faced by every child in today’s
society, and teachers, therefore, must also deal with these things on a
day-to-day basis. This site has a
separate section focusing just on these hard issues. Setting reasonable goals is a very important,
yet very difficult thing for many students.
This site helps teachers and students, as well, recognize and realize
reasonable fitness and health goals.

This website is extremely useful for elementary physical education and health
teachers. It provides lesson plans and
curriculum ideas for teaching children how to safely balance healthy eating

Since I am also going to be certified in English, I thought it would be a good idea to supply some websites that would help out those who teach in this content area.
