About.Com – This site allows teens, aged 13-19, to submit poetry,
fiction and non-fictional works. Teens
may also share favorite writing URL addresses, ideas for the forum discussions,
and notes about College writing programs.
About.com cross-references teen submissions with both chronological and
thematic indexes. The site encourages both general submissions in addition to
current “Writing Challenges” about given topics or styles. Students simply select from a host of
pull-down menus that describe the genre and thematic category for their work
before pasting it directly into the program.
The student submission form collects the student’s full name bit will
not publish it online. For students
under 18, the site requires a parental email address or phone number. The
private policies are clearly detailed. Specific writing tips are provided to
further develop students’ skills. Date

Jupiter Sky – This site
publishes original photography, music, art and writings by high school and
undergraduate students. With a clearly noted privacy policy, Jupiter Sky
collects personal information about students submitting works for
administrative use only. “Students whose works are published in Jupiter Sky
will be credited by name, city and by the name of their school or university, unless otherwise requested” (from http://www.jupitersky.com/magazine/privacy.htm.) Students and teachers would need to
explicitly request that last names are not published. Students either copy and paste textual
productions directly into an email or attach JPEG, MP3,
WAV or
Kid Authors – This site services all age ranges with
the following groupings: Beginner
(5 to 7 years), Intermediate (8 to 11 years) and Advanced (12 years and older). The power of
peer editing fuels the appeal of this site.
For high ratings, submissions enter the KidAuthors Hall of Fame. The five articles written by favorite authors
provide user-friendly writing tips for a variety of genres. The direct link to their privacy policy is at

- This online magazine is written
by teens aged 13 -19. Beyond poetry and
fiction, students can submit interviews, movie reviews, book reviews and essays
about a variety of topics such as sports, cars, racism, the environment, and
community service. The past issues of
the magazines are conveniently arranged by a picture icon for each topic. The sections about effective feedback and
general writing tips are highly beneficial.
