Mythology Introduction

The study of Greek Mythology is a very interesting and revealing insight to the way things were in Greece a long time ago. The concepts and facts of Greek Mythology can be captivating to seventh grade students, but they can also be confusing and overwhelming at the same time (Who was Zeus’ real love anyway? She was related to him how?).

Introducing Greek Mythology sets the premise for students’ desire to want to learn the entire picture: who are the Greek gods, how are they all related, what is each gods’ purpose, what did the people of the society of that time believe, and more.

In this lesson, students will have the chance to look at a website that introduces the twelve Olympic gods and goddesses, Mythweb. They will read captions about each god/goddess and record their findings as a starting point in Greek Mythology.
