General Educational Games

Fun Brain - This site provides various games. The games seemed to mostly be geared towards math and English.  One of my favorite is the Plural Girls.  The site also provides a teachers corner which provides links to various resources.

Sheppard Software - This site provides games for every subject.  This is a great way to get kids motivated to learn.  They can work on their skills in math, science, health, vocabulary and the list goes on.  It is important that kids continue to remember things such as simple math facts and this is a great way to keep them practicing.

The Problem Site - This site not only provides a multitude of educational games but also has some other ones throw in there as well.  Most of the other games are brain games.  Most of the games on this site are word games or math games.

Language Arts

Edu Place - This site provides online grammar quizzes for kids’ grades 2 through 5.  The questions mostly ask for you to pick the right part of the sentence.  This would be a great tool to use in addition to what is taught in the classroom or could even be counted as a real quiz.

Homework Hub – This site provides many different types of grammar games that work on prefixes, suffixes, spelling, and more.  It would be great to use for elementary school age children who have free time. The game “Edit Dan’s Copy” would be a great reinforcement in what student may learn in class about basic grammar rules.

Star Fall - This site provides games for kids that are just starting to read or maybe need a little extra help.  The activities start off with just hearing each of the letters and continue to reading stories on their own.  Students that are more independent readers that get stuck on a word can click on that word and hear what the word is then continue with the story.  This would be great for kids to use at home to brush up on reading skills or during any free time.

Math

A Plus Math - This site would be great for lower elementary school aged kids.  The games are set up to work on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  Each game is a little different having students playing matho, hidden picture, concentration or planet blaster.  This would be a great tool to use during free time or with any kids that may be having problems with their math facts.

Cool Math 4 Kids – This site is interesting in that it provides games from many upper elementary and middle school aged kids but also give them the ability to review what the game is testing.  This would be a great use of class time to review many math concepts.

Science

For Kids Only - This site provides a few science related games in which students are asked questions that they must get correct before continuing.  The game, “What on Earth?” is set up much like Jeopardy.  It would be great for students to play as a class to review for a test.  These questions are geared toward upper elementary grades.

Kaboose - This site provides games more geared toward elementary school aged students.  The games are related mostly to animals but do continue fun games on other science topics as well.  This would be a great tool to use when kids are inside on a rainy day for recess.

Science for Kids – This site provides a variety of games from being science related to just plain fun.  The game I would really like to recommend is “Chemical Concentration” in which kids can practice matching up the elements to their abbreviation.  This would be great practice for students just starting to be exposed to the periodic table.

Social Studies

Kids Past – This website contains history games relating to upper elementary to middle school.  Students have to answer questions correctly in order to be successful in the game.  This would be a great tool to use to review for a test because the questions are specific.

Primary Games - This site contains games mostly geared towards geography elements.  Students can find out where places are, practice identifying flags, label the United States and much more.  These games are geared towards middle elementary school aged children and would be great for them to touch up on their skills whenever there is a free moment.

Social Studies for Kids – This site has all the games relating to social studies that you would ever want to find.  These games are listed in categories such as culture, economics, geography, history and U.S. games.  Kids can learn while having fun.  Clicking on these various subcategories will send you to an appropriate site.  These games seem to really reach the middle to upper elementary aged student and would be great to use during any free class time.
