Mathematics

Study Island – This website provides practice for students in mathematics. The programs are created with the state standards in mind, so they are beneficial for students to use. The only downfall is that the district must have a contract with this company. http://www.studyisland.com

Math Playground – This website provides math practice for students in elementary school and middle school. There are word problems, activities, games, puzzles and videos available for students to use to enhance their skills. http://www.mathplayground.com

Math is Fun – This website provides practice for students in grades K-12 for mathematics. There are word problems, activities, puzzles, and many more links to use to spruce up your mathematics skills. http://www.mathisfun.com

Cool Math Games – This website provides math lessons and games for students and teachers alike. This website focuses on grades K-12, and there is even a parent area for parents to get ideas of how to help their students. http://www.coolmath-games.com

Fact Monster – This website is a reference for parents, students and teachers. Many different subjects can be found on this website, but I focused on the math portion. I really enjoyed using the activities in this website. http://www.factmonster.com

 

Social Studies

History Alive – This website focuses on the information in a social studies textbook for grades K-8. All of the standards are covered in this website. http://tutorial.teachtci.com/

Gamequarium – This website has many links that cover all areas of social studies. I would highly recommend this site for use to work on social studies facts and information. http://www.gamequarium.org

National Geographic Kids – This website covers kid-friendly topics that are taught in a social studies curriculum. There are many articles and videos that will get the interest of the students. http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/

Social Studies for Kids – This website is geared toward students in the activities that are available for them to do. There are many topics which follow the standards that are covered. http://www.socialstudiesforkids.com/

Brain Pop – This website is so fun and interactive for students to use. There are videos, quizzes, activities, and more for students to do to learn more about social studies. http://www.brainpop.com/socialstudies/

 

Science

StarChild – This website focuses on astrology, and is a great website for students to use. This is interactive and has a lot of great information. The creators of this website are employees of NASA. http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/StarChild.html

Brain Pop – This website is great to use as a whole group activity to introduce a unit in science. I used this website for that purpose already and there are quizzes at the end that are able to be printed and used. The students love the videos on this website with Tim and Moby. http://brainpop.com/science/

Science News for Kids – This website is friendly for students and covers many topics that are covered under state curriculum and standards. There are photos and articles to read that could be used in the classroom to learn more about the topic that is being covered. http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org

Try Science – This is a great resource for students and teachers. There are many science experiments that can be done, and webcams to zoos to look at certain animals. http://www.tryscience.org/livecams/live_cams.html

Cool Science for Curious Kids – This is a great website for students that want to go above and beyond in their studies of science. This is mostly with regards to Biology and is meant for students that are in intermediate grades and above. http://www.hhmi.org/coolscience/forkids/

 

Reading

Fun Brain – This website is excellent for students from K-8. There are games and activities related to reading. There are also teacher resources to use that are very helpful. http://www.funbrain.com/

Yahoo Word Games – This website is full of fun games to help students with phonics and reading. Boggle, Text Twist, and Scrabble are a few of the games offered. http://games.yahoo.com/word-games

The Kidz Page – This site has educational word games, memory, and online learning games. This is most likely for students ages K-6. http://www.thekidzpage.com/learninggames/index.htm

Starfall – This website is geared toward primary grades with beginning readers. There are phonics activities and stories to read. This is a great resource for small group instruction. http://www.starfall.com

Scholastic – This is a great website to use for reading and writing concepts. There are activities that can be done with writing and reading, and different games to play. Students really seem to have fun with the activities. http://www.scholastic.com
