Should
Animals Be Used in Research?
Good day
class! We are going to have a debate on Friday to determine whether or not animals
should be used in research. In order to better understand the pros and cons to
using animals in research I want you to visit the websites I have listed below.
I will be placing you into two groups, and you will not be choosing your side
of the argument. I will be telling you what your argument is going to be, and
you have to find evidence to persuade the other group to feel the same way.
Website
links to use for this activity:
The
Humane Society – This website will be helpful to understand what animals
are used for research, and gives general information about testing of animals.
American Psychological
Society – This website has some Q&A related to animals being used for
research.
OSERA – This website will
help you to understand why animals are used for research, and possible ways to
use fewer animals.
American Anti-Vivisection
Society – This website is used to attempt to sway your opinion to stop
research on animals by using statistics.
While
visiting these websites I want you to take notes that will help your argument.
Don’t forget to think about what will help the other group’s argument as well
so you can have a counter-argument during the debate. I want you to come up
with at least five reasons for your side. On Friday each member of your group
will be to turn in a paper to persuade me to agree with you.
Paper
Requirements:
·
Must
list at least 5 reasons why you have the best opinion.
·
Must
be at least one full page with 12 size font.
·
Margins
must be set at 0.5” on each side.
·
Must
be written in paragraph form with an introduction, body, and conclusion.
If you have
any questions, please consult your group members first then come to me for
help. Good luck and I’m looking forward to hearing your arguments. J Ms. Staub
