Teacher Sites

  1. Search Phrases:
    1. “High School Classroom Web Sites”
    2. “Classroom Web Sites”

  1. Teacher Sites:
    1. http://www.hilton.k12.ny.us/intranet/hs/druekberg/index.htm

This page is linked from Hilton High School in New York.  The site is posted by David Ruekberg an English teacher in the Hilton District.  The site is for 11th grade honors and 12th grade English.  This is a helpful site it includes help with class work, a listing of homework, general expectations for the class, a listing of class work, on-line resources, links and a homework depository.  There is also a direct link to Mr. Ruekberg’s e-mail address.

Commendations:

1.      There are bulleted explanations detailing where the links at the top of the page will take you.  This is very helpful.

2.      Page is well laid out; it also includes a picture of Mr. Ruekberg.

3.      Mr. Ruekberg lists his goal for the site which I think makes a lot of sense.  You know right away what he hopes to accomplish.

Recommendations:

1.        I think the page background color he uses is too dark and confusing.  Difficult to see.

2.        Some clip art of some sort would help to dress things up a little and make it more interesting.

3.        If the page was condensed a little you wouldn’t have to scroll to view the whole page.

    1. http://www.geocities.com/jrdngst/

This page is linked from Bourne High School in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  The site is posted by Mr. Geist a History teacher in the Bourne District.  Mr. Geist’s site lists the expectations for each of the three courses he teaches.  Mr. Geist’s site would be for students in 10th thru 12th grade.  This site also includes project descriptions and due dates, a weather link, yahoo search, top story’s of  the day, daily trivia, this day in history and a contact link to Mr. Geist.

Commendations:

1.      Very detailed course expectations.  The student knows exactly what to expect.

2.      Includes a lot of interesting links.  These can be very helpful for research.

3.      Each of the course descriptions includes a picture of a person important to that particular time in history.  This links the picture to a time period.

Recommendations:

1.      Includes a lot of extra information that may or may not useful to a student taking the course.  Student could easily become distracted.

2.      As with the site listed in example #1 I think the overall layout of the site could be condensed to make it easier to navigate.  Not as much scrolling to view site.

3.      Project due date and description has not been kept up to date.  Should be current.
