iTunes- Ranking in at #1, iTunes provides the user with and excellent overall music experience. Aesthetically appealing, easy to navigate, and offering features & tools that are geared for the user. This site also provides competitive pricing and discounts and sales. They will also send out free playlists to subscribers. A great music subscription site ranking very high on the charts. eMusic- Considered to be the little cousin of iTunes, eMusic offers some of the great features of iTunes with cheaper prices. The downside is that there is lower restrictions and some major labels will not cooperate with eMusic. Date Visited- 7/12/09

Part 2: Music Supported Lesson Plan

Grade Level: 9-12th Grade
Objective: To jump rope in unison to a variety of musical tempos.
Students will be able to:
Maintain jump rope speeds according to the varying tempo of three different songs.
Obtain and record heart rates during resting intervals.
Compare and contrast steps recorded by pedometers.
Compare and contrast heart rates with the tempo speed of each song.
Procedures:
Students will meet in assigned squads and be instructed to record individual resting heart rates.
Students will run a light warm up jog
around the gym followed by a static stretch and dynamic warm-up.
The
teacher will pass out pedometers and jump ropes to students.
The teacher will assign students in groups of 2-3 and find adequate space in the gym.
The teacher will instruct students that in each group one student will be assigned as the time keeper, step and heart rate recorder.
The teacher will then start the clock and music and monitor students.
After each session the teacher will instruct the students to rotate and repeat the procedures.
At the end of the class the teacher will instruct students to obtain and record their post exercise heart rates.
Closure:
Jumping rope is a fun and effective exercise to train the cardiovascular system. The teacher will review with the students how measuring heart rate is an effective tool to monitor cardiovascular strength. Also the recovery rate post exercise is can also be used to determine cardiovascular efficiency. The teacher will review with the students how it is important to maintain a steady pace when exercising the cardiovascular system. Also question students on the relationship between heart rates and tempo.
Evaluation:
The teacher will review students heart rate, pedometer recording data over several sessions to determine if students are following instructions and putting fourth enough effort and determination.
