Elective #12

Part I Best Online News Sources

The Washington Post (Fitness & Health)- A internationally respected resource for news, current events and information. Considered to be the leading source for news, the Washington Post is one of the nations largest circulating papers. The online website can be used without signing in but offers even more features with a subscription. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/health/fitness-nutrition/

MSNBC (Health)- A combination of two respected news sources, MSN and NBC, MSNBS is a great source for up to date information. One of the more attractive characteristics of this site is the interactive video features. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032076/ns/health

Evaluation Narrative

These sites were chosen because they provide reliable, consistent, well organized/navigated, and up to date information. These also carry over into the content area of physical education and health. It was difficult to make a decision after investigating the other news sites, which were all very useful and informative. I wanted to chose a site that was considered a leading resource with world/national/local news and offered up to date information pertaining to physical education and health placing stress on organization, aesthetics and navigation. This is because I would want my students to be able to get to desired information without having the hassle of being redirected or pop ups. Another aspect that I considered when making my decision was the level of interaction. I wanted a site that students can interact with which would keep their interest and be meaningful to them. These two sites, The Washington Post and MSNBS satisfied most of my requirements. Similar yet each offered unique features and individual style that was aesthetically pleasing, organized and easily navigated.
