Teacher Made Web Sites
Mrs. Noga’s
Number News – Mrs. Noga is
a Title 1 math specialist for grades three and four. Her website is an excellent resource that is very simple for
students to use. Great activities for
additional math practice are listed in the summer suggestions section. She also includes a problem of the month and
the solution to last month’s problem. A
complete set of math links are available for students to use as well. Date visited: 6/13/06
http://www.pottsville.k12.pa.us/homepages/dnoga/index.htm
Commendations:
- It is clear
that the page is updated regularly (monthly) to correspond with what is
happening in the school year.
- The site is
easy to navigate due to a clear index section at the top of each page.
- Graphics
are fun and appealing to children.
Recommendations:
- Keep
backgrounds consistent throughout the pages and stick with a background
that is light in color with a black font for text.
- Make sure
links are working (several are not).
- Include an
introductory text on the homepage as a note to students and parents for
how the website is to be used.
Mrs. Martin’s Third Grade –
This site is created by a
third grade teacher and contains information about the math, reading, content
areas, and language arts curriculum as it relates to third graders. Due dates for reading assignments as well as
multiplication strategies are all available on this site. It would serve as a good source of reference
for students to double check due dates and assignments. Date visited: 6/13/06
http://www.sidney.k12.oh.us/schools/MartiA/
Commendations:
- Contact information is available for
students and parents to access the teacher.
- Font size and color make it very easy
to read the text.
- Links are available to go to other
great websites to gain additional information about topics.
Recommendations:
- It is unclear by looking at the pages
who the target audience is supposed to be. If the audience is comprised of third graders, there should
be more colorful pictures and “kid friendly” writing.
- The science and health sections under
the “Content Areas” page looks to be unfinished and needs to contain some
information.
- Include interactive activities to
prompt students to visit the site and help them learn as well.
