Planning Guide

Objective:  Students will be able to create a plan for designing an individual teacher web page.

Objective:  Students will identify key aspects to creating a useful web page.

Introduction:  Everything seems to come with a web page now.  From restaurants and hotels to students and school districts, all kinds of useful information can be found on the Internet.  Teachers are now hopping on the bandwagon and creating great teacher web pages.  It is important to make sure that these sites are not just for show, but are functional and worthwhile to parents, teachers, and students.  Making a good teacher website, like all other areas of our profession, requires a great deal of planning.  This activity is designed to give you an opportunity to look at resources available to teachers for making web pages and to begin planning your own web page.

Activities: Planning a classroom web page could prove to be an extremely overwhelming task.  Proper planning will help to break it down into smaller, more manageable items. Use the links below to explore the steps required for planning and creating your own teacher web site.

Assignment:  Create a classroom web page planning guide using ideas and items from the “Creating Classroom Webs” link from above.  Include the following information in list format:

1.       Your district policy- what rules and regulations does the district have for posting information, will there be space available for you to post, etc?

2.     Purpose- why are you creating the web page, how is the web page intended to be used?

3.     Content- specifically, what information would you like to include in your web page?

4.     Promote- how will you promote your web page to your target audience?

Then, create a storyboard or map showing the layout of the web (similar to the Initial Storyboard link from the tutorial).

Submission:  Post your activities as an html file to the McDaniel Web Server.  Include the file on your index page, and send your instructor a hotlink to the page with an email notification that it is complete.
