Using Data From a Bar Graph

You will use bar graphs many times throughout your life.  It is important to know how to use the graphs to draw conclusions about the data.   One way to do this is by looking at the range, mean, and mode of the data.  Use the links below from Mrs. Glosser’s Math Goodies to refresh your knowledge of these three terms, and then complete the questions using the graph.  All questions should be answered on tablet paper with an appropriate heading.  Papers will be collected.

Range –

Mean –

Mode –

  1. How many people participated in the survey?  How do you know?
  2. How many people prefer each type of topping?
    1. Cheese?
    2. Pepperoni?
    3. Sausage?
    4. Combo?
    5. Veggie?
  3. What is the range of the data collected?
  4. What is the mode of the data? (Be careful)
  5. Calculate the mean of the data.
  6. Survey the class using these same topping choices.  Calculate the range, mode, and mean of the data.  What similarities and differences do you notice in the data?
