Letter to the Parents |
Dear parent,
I am writing this letter to inform you of the measures the school district, as well myself, take to ensure that your students are safe while using the internet at school.
This is what the school system does to provide your student with safe access to the internet.
1. On individual computers in teacher’s classrooms, we maintain a Firewall that blocks access to all adult or inappropriate websites.
2. All computers in the student computer labs are “White-listed,” meaning that students have access only to a specific list of educational and research websites.
3. All Instant Messenger and email sites are blocked to prohibit students from communicating with unknown persons, and to limit the amount of personal information students disclose online.
4. We educate all of our teachers regarding rules and regulations, as well as other concerns for students using the internet.
This is what I do as a matter of teaching practice to provide your student safe access to the internet.
1. I maintain a password on each of my classroom computers to keep students from logging onto the web while I am not around. Students are not permitted to use any of the computers either in my room or in the computer lab without teacher supervision.
2. I provide students with a complete list of safety tips for using the internet.
3. I carefully monitor students who are online, and I give them specific instructions for internet navigation.
4. I address and education my students on important issues including internet gangs and the presence of sexual predators in online chat rooms.
5. I enforce strict time management policies to limit the amount of time students spend online each day, and I encourage students to engage in educational and meaningful activities while online.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the information in this letter, please feel free to contact me at school. I hope this relieves you of any concerns you may have had in terms of your child’s safety online.
Sincerely
Ms. Roof
