The fourth grade student performance objectives in Maryland for social studies include tracing the routes of 15th- 17th century explorers and understanding how the European nations competed for control of North America.  The following web sites offer information on twelve of the more well known explorers from that time period.  All of the sites listed are appropriate for fourth grade viewing. 

 

 

 

Vasco Nunez de Balboa: Spanish Conquistador and Explorer-  Enchanted Learning’s website on this explorer for the upper elementary and middle school student.  Includes biographical information as well as route maps, accomplishments and problems encountered.
