Rubrics
Objective: Students will become aware of the various rubric templates
and rubric maker sites available online.
Objective:
Students will be able to successfully use one of these sites to create a
rubric for an assignment.
Introduction:
With education becoming more and more standards based, assessments are
an increasingly more important part of every lesson. Rubrics are a good way of providing more than
just right and wrong answers to questions.
They provide an excellent way for students to judge the quality of their
work before handing it in. This makes
the student more of a participant in the outcome and more likely to strive for
higher achievement.
Activity: Visit the following websites to learn more about rubrics and
why they are used so often, what the benefits are and even what students think
of them.

Assignment: You will be creating your own rubric to go with one your Web
Dropins. Above
are links to several web sites with rubric templates and other rubric creating devices. Use one of
these or another rubric maker that you choose to create the rubric. There should be at least three levels of
quality in the rubric and at least two categories that will be assessed. Remember to keep in mind the grade level of
the student that the drop in has been developed for when choosing language for
the corresponding rubric. Please put the
URL for the web site you used to create your rubric and give the URL for the
corresponding Web Dropin.
Submission: Post your rubric as an html file to the McDaniel server,
create a link to the file on your index page and send an email to the instructor
with a hotlink and the URL to the assignment.
You may also chose to include the rubric in the web drop for which it
was created.
