Instructional Modifications

 

 

Visual Impairment/Blind

Ø     Peer buddy read off the directions on the screen to the student.

Ø     Try to get a keyboard that has Braille on it so the child can type.

Ø     Get a program that reads to the child what is on the page.

Ø     Get a program that reads to the child what he/she just typed on the screen.

Ø     Give all the directions verbally.

Ø     Work with a partner or group for assignments that are done on the computer.

Ø     Have directions written in Braille for the student to read on their own.

Ø     Have a permanent assistant to help the child especially with use of the mouse.

Ø     Try to keep the assignments short for the student. 

Ø     Allow the student to have plenty of time to complete any assignments.

 

 

ADHD

Ø     Use concrete examples of content before teaching the students abstract information.

Ø     Highlight the important concepts to be learned in text of the material to draw students focus on that information.

Ø     Set time limits for specific task completion.

Ø     Make sure text is readable and the colors are easy on the eyes while looking at web pages.

Ø     Have the student read the directions to you before they begin their task.

Ø     Make sure directions are clearly stated.

Ø     Make information short and to the point.

Ø     Provide due dates for all the assignments.

Ø     Keep activities short that are done on the computer.

Ø     Try to provide fun and exciting assignments to keep the student’s interest.
