Parts of a Computer

A Web Drop-in Activity for 6th and 7th Grade

 

Introduction:

Computers are becoming as integral a part of our society as the car.  How long will it be before all homes have a computer, or multiple computers with internet access?  Just as a car owner must know all the basic parts to their vehicle, it is just as important that computer users know and understand the basic function of their computer system and its components.

Directions:

1) Review the questions you will be answering for each Link provided below.  They are located below the links.

2) Visit each link and review the information provided.

3) Draw a diagram of a computer based on the picture below.  Label each of the numbered blanks.

4) Answer questions 1-4 below. (May be short answer)

Questions:

1)   What are input devices?   Give some examples of why they are considered input devices.

2)   What are output devices?  Give some examples of why they are considered output devices.

3)   Are there any items that could be considered both input and output? Explain.

4)   Try to image some type of Input or Output device of the future.  What might it be like? Explain.

 

5) Draw a computer set up similar to the one shown below. Add and components not shown that you would like to.  Identify and label at least 7 components.  Make sure to identify “Input” and “Output” devices as appropriate.

 

This assignment is due at the end of next period.
