The Muscular System

The muscles of the human body come in all shapes and sizes, but the main function of muscles is movement.  But how does this happen?

Each end of a muscle is connected to a bone by means of a tendon.  The fixed bone (the one which will not move) is called the origin, and the end of the muscle that attaches to the moving bone is called the insertion.  When the muscle contracts or shortens, the insertion is pulled toward the origin and movement occurs.

For this activity you will create a table of the major muscles of the body, which joint the muscle acts upon, and the movement that occurs with muscle contraction.
