Lesson Plans
Lesson Planet – This is a great lesson plan search engine that provides access to a host of online lesson plans. There are over 65,000 online lesson plans that have been created and viewed by experienced K-12 educators. An educator can search for lesson plans by topic and then further narrow down the hits by choosing a rating (1 to 5 stars) and by the appropriate grade level. I chose to focus on the Cold war and found 18 five star secondary Ed lesson plans. This site was by far the most useful in terms of quality of lesson plans and the timeliness of performing searches.

Lesson Planz - This site comes in a close second to the above site. It too is a lesson plan search engine that allows educators to choose from a good selection of quality lesson plans. The hot link takes you to the main page where you can choose to search for lesson plans in all different subjects even though I focused on Social Studies. There are 71 lesson plans for Social Studies in the secondary education level. The topics include history, culture, geography, etc. After viewing the various lesson plans, you can actually rate them on how useful they were.

Discovery
School – This lesson plan is powered by the Discovery Channel and
provides multiple lesson plans for various fields of study. The lesson plan of particular interest
that I chose for this link has to do with the Cold War. The lesson plan breaks things down from
objectives to suggested readings and pretty much everything in between. In addition to the Cold War, this site
would be useful for other

History Lessons
- This site has a range of decent lesson plans focusing on history. I was looking for lesson plans on the
Cold War, which I did end up finding a handful, but there are also lesson plans
for other

National Geographic – The final selection on this list, by far not the least valuable, is powered by National Geographic. Educators can choose from any of the secondary Ed grade levels and pick a variety of different topics they may be covering in their classrooms. Although I was looking for info on the Cold War, I did find a lot more info on other topics. This site won’t have a lesson plan for every aspect or topic in a secondary education history class, but it will have some good lesson plans every now and then, depending on the educators needs. The best part is that all the information is coming from a reliable source that has a long tradition in public classrooms.
