VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP GUIDE
Interested in taking a Virtual Tour? How about a Virtual Tour that will
take you away to Ancient Rome! Below is a list of four virtual field trips that
are fascinating and fun. Why spend a boat load of money, work with permission
slips and hunt for chaperones when you can take a load off, sit down, and step
back into the ages to explore Ancient Rome! Your students can take the tour all
by themselves and learn about the wonders of Rome!
Virtual Field Trip # 1
The David M. Robinson
Collection

This is a university museum of the University of Mississippi
and contains information on Roman coins, sculpture, and inscriptions. Each
category has a handful of photos of the coins, inscriptions, sculptures,
bronzes, etc. The photos are all in color and highly detailed. If your students
knew how to read Latin, they could actually read the inscriptions off of the
photos. Not satisfied with just photos? Want more bang
for your buck? Then maybe you would be more interested in the next virtual
field trip.one with a little more substance.
Virtual Field Trip #2
Pompeii

This virtual field trip will take you and your students to the ancient
Roman city of Pompeii.
Not only can you see the sculpture and architecture of the Roman city, you can
learn all about the tragedy that happened there when Mount
Vesuvius decided to blow! This field trip provides a wide array of
photos and the basic information needed to understand what happened there.
Although there is not a ton of information, who wants to read on a field trip
anyway right? This trip takes you through Pompeii
and Herculaneum
as well as some basics about the volcano.

Virtual Field Trip # 3
The Roman Open Air Museum

Take this virtual field trip and explore a Roman villa dating from the
1st to the 3rd century! It is a little expensive and time
consuming to take the whole class to Italy and view one of these
magnificent villas, so why not check it out online? You can take the classic
tour with photos and text, view a 3D model of the villa, or even check out
panoramic views! Learn about how the villa was discovered and why it is
important to our understanding of Roman history. The field trip will take you
and your students thru 27 different parts of the villa!
Virtual Field Trip # 4
Tour Ancient Rome!

At this point you could have chosen to explore the devastation wrought
by Mt. Vesuvius or taken a tour of a Roman
Villa. Im guessing, by the fact you have made it to the bottom of this
list, that you want more. Well, step right up and join Claudius Amicus on a
tour of Rome!
This is the greatest of the virtual field trips on Rome available here. By walking step by step
from your ship arriving in the famous harbor of Ostia
to your bathing at the Great Baths of Caracalla! This trip will immerse you in
a day in the life of a wealthy Roman and expose you to the many aspects of
Roman architecture, culture, and general way of life. Enjoy, and remember, HAIL
CAESAR!!!
