Elective #4 – Communication

Newsletters (nwsltrs.htm)

I started to check out some sites and decided to divide my interests between my subject area and library media.

Education World

Education World offers a multitude of research, information, classroom tools, subject resources, reference centers (for competitions, etc.), article archives, and specialties, as well as numerous newsletters the user can subscribe to. I chose to receive a weekly newsletter, lesson plans, and education humor. My only fear is that this newsletter will cater to the elementary grades more than the upper grades – but it seemed to have a varied selection in the preview sections. I really want to be able to integrate much more technology into my classroom. We are currently in the middle of a building project. The plan is to have a small computer center in each classroom, to allow the teacher to integrate technology into that room and his/her lessons. I plan to utilize this to its fullest potential!

School Library Journal

This is the second time I’ve subscribed to School Library Journal! I liked it the first and thought I’d give it another try. It caters, not only, to the librarian, but to the classroom teacher as well. It is chocked full of ideas, reviews, book of the week picks, news and resources relevant to you in your state, and career news. Not knowing how long I will be staying in the classroom, I want to have a good foothold in library “lingo” before I get started! School Library Journal offers that while maintaining its connection to the classroom; it is something a librarian can use to aid a classroom teacher with integration between the Media Center and the classroom.
