Paul Cezanne

Today we are going to use the Internet to learn more about the artist, Paul Cezanne. Cezanne was a French artist who lived in the 1800s.

Let's visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art web site to listen to a story written about him and look at some of his paintings.

With a partner, click on the link below to begin: http://www.metmuseum.org/explore/cezannes_apples/apple.html

Click on the triangle that says "Let's Read". When the storyteller is finished reading the page, click on the red triangle at the bottom of the page to go to the next page. Be sure to look closely at the illustrations in the story - they are paintings by Cezanne!

ACTIVITY:

  1. Get an apple, a piece of fabric, a piece of white paper and a pencil from the materials table.
  2. With the other students at your table, arrange the fabric and the apples in the center of the table. Now, you have created an arrangement of ordinary objects - this is called a still life!
  3. Look carefully at the still life and draw a picture of it on the white paper.
