Introduction:

Today you will research your local NBA (basketball) team, the Washington Wizards!  You will use the statistics chart to gather information about the basketball season.  You will also take a brief look at Michael Jordan since it is his last year in professional basketball.  You will also calculate how much it would cost for your entire family to attend a game and what time you would have to leave your house.

Activity:

You will watch what I do on the big screen and follow me on your computer to finish this activity.

1.     The first thing that you need to do is print the list of questions by clicking here and then clicking on the print button.  In order to save time, I may print these out for you before class.  Wait for my instructions.

2.     Next, you will visit the Washington Wizards Statistics Chart by clicking here.

3.     Answer questions 1, 2, 3, and 4 on your sheet.

4.     Next, click on “Jordan” in the High Pts column.  This will take you to Michael Jordan’s information.  Answer questions 5 and 6 on your paper.

5.     Next, click on the TIX symbol shown next to the name of the opponent for the next home game.  This will take you to the Ticketmaster web page.  Answer question 8 by finding the lowest price of a ticket.

6.     Now you will find out how far you live from the MCI Center, the stadium where the Washington Wizards play.  Go to Mapquest by clicking here or typing in http://www.mapquest.com/.

7.     Next click on “DRIVING DIRECTIONS” by clicking on the car symbol at the top of the screen.

8.     OK, pay attention here.  This part is a little bit tricky, but I know you can do it.  Under “Start”, type Reisterstown for the city and MD for the state.  Under “End”, type Washington for the city and DC for the state.  Next click on the arrow next to “Places of Interest” and click on “Sports Complexes”.  Scroll down and click on “GET DIRECTIONS”.  On the next screen, select MCI Center and click “GET DIRECTIONS” again.  Write down how long it will take in hours and minutes (Total Estimated Time) for question 9.

9.     Make sure that you have answered all of the questions that have a ball next to them and that you have collected your statistics chart from the printer.

10.     Logoff on the computer and quietly line up to go back to class.
