Professional Web Links

 

The web links that you will find on this page are a conglomeration of professional as well as personal web sites.  I teach Math at the Antietam Academy, which is the alternative school for Washington County.  These are sites that are geared to my content as well as behavior.

 

Discipline and Special Education

 

Disciplinethis web site contains information about discipline in the classroom.  You can target a particular behavior and receive feedback on how to deal with it in the classroom setting.  There are also instruction suggestions to use with certain types of behavior.  There is also a section where you can email specific questions.  http://www.disciplinehelp.com/

 

Legal Information- Wrights Law is a site that deals mainly with the legal aspect of the special education field.  It has up to date information on the laws, not only from the teacher’s perspective, but also for parents and students.  There are free resources that can be ordered.  Great for any classroom teacher.  http://www.wrightslaw.com

 

Students with Math Learning Disablities- This is a web site that contains information on all different types of learning disabilities.  I have mainly used it for Math purposes.  It gives wonderful suggestions on how to adapt your lessons to meet the needs of the special education students in your class.  The site also gives links to other sites that deal with special education.  http://www.ldonline.org/ld_indepth/resource-guide.html

 

Classroom Instruction

 

 Classroom Instruction-Edhelper is a site designed to help with in class instruction.  The site gives ideas for lessons.  You can subscribe to the site, which will give you unlimited use of all areas, or there are sections that you can access for free.  There are reproducibles for thematic units, as well as fun word searches and puzzles.  My students love the items I get from this site.  http://www.edhelper.com/

 

Classroom Instruction- Wicked 4 Kids is a web link geared toward students, but I have found a lot of fun activities that I have used in my classroom.  There are experiments that you can access; there is a section of riddles and jokes.  The students can also submit their own creations.  There are also safe chat rooms that the students can access that have subjects that would be of interest to them.   http://www.wicked4kids.com/

 

Family Network: Teachers Instruction from A-Z- Everything and anything you need for the classroom.  Since I teach math I use most of the links that are found on the sites that deal with math.  Teacher Vision has lesson plans, cross curriculum information, thematic units, teacher supplies, newsletters etc….  It is mainly geared to the elementary level student, but a lot if the information can be modified to be used at any grade level.  http://www.teachervision.com/.

 

Mathematics Instruction

 

Math Instruction: Math Archives- This web site strictly deals with math curriculum.  It gives lesson plans for specific content material.  It also gives suggestions to math technology that is available.  There is also a how to section that will help you integrate technology into your regular curriculum.  http://archives.math.utk.edu/

 

Student Self-help: Larson Math- The Larson Math Company has developed an interactive site for students where the can receive help with any type of math problem.  They do have to subscribe to the site, which cost 9.95 for the entire year.  The site can then be accessed from home where they can receive help.  They will allow you to visit the site for a 24-hour trial.  I have accounts set up for my students at the beginning of the year.  The feedbacks that I have received from the students that use the accounts are very positive.  There are also links for the teachers to visit that can help with lesson planning and instruction ideas.   http://www.larsonmath.com/

Parent Information: American Baby-This is a site for parents with infant to toddler age children.  You can access information about pregnancy, what to expect on a weekly bases.  The site will answer question that you may have about your unborn to toddler age child.  There are great articles to download, and super coupons.  My twins are 28 months old and I still enjoy visiting this site.  http://americanbaby.com/

 

Raising Twin Children: Twins Magazine- I subscribe to the magazine, but there is a tone of information on the web site.  Lots of informational articles on raising twins.   There is a question and answer sections, information on pregnancy, smart buys etc….

Consumer Information- The consumer web site gives information on anything that you may be interested in buying.  I have to work on a budget just like everyone else.  This web site is great about giving best buy for the average consumer.  It also will tell what are the safest and best rates on consumer products.  A perfect research tool for spending your money wisely. Telephone Information:Find Any Number - Verizon, Find any number you need- I always seem to find myself looking for phone numbers.  This directory allows you to find any number you need any where in the United States.  The best part of it is you don’t have to go searching through the phone book, and the service is free.   http://www.superpages.com/

  Help Around the House: Ready Prepared Food- Being a very busy mom, finding time to go to the grocery store is sometimes difficult, especially with twins.  Schwans Food allows you to place an order online, and then they will deliver right to your freezer.  The online form will total your order and you may leave payment to be picked up when they deliver your order. http://www.schwans.com/

Interactive Site for Young Children: Playhouse Disney- Awesome site for young children.  Disney does a wonderful job of incorporating fun and education.  There are games, music, reading, and lots more.  It is easy for young children to maneuver through the links.  Because my children are so young we have to work together.  Fun for everyone!  http://disney.go.com/park/bases/playhousebase/today/flash/index.html

 

More Online Shopping:  Ebay- I think that this is one web site that everyone must visit.  Ebay is a place where you can purchase or bid on any item under the sun.  You can purchase items at great prices.  You are also able to find things that may no longer be in distribution.  I have found great prices on movies that may not be in circulation.  My children fell in love with the movie Annie.  I was not able to purchase it through my local video store; I was able to find it on Ebay for a very reasonable price.  Check it out, it’s worth it!  http://ebay.com/

 

Online Banking- A lot of banks now days are offering online banking, if you have a chance to subscribe do so, it is worth it.  You can access all of your accounts, pay bills on line, and transfer funds between accounts.  I use it almost every day to check what check have been posted to my account, and to check my balance.  Most banks will offer a trial period, and then charge a flat fee to continue the service.  It makes banking so easy.  http://firstvirginia.com/
