Telecommunications and the Internet
Spring 2003
The internet is someplace where you can defiantly get lost. Anything and everything you need to know can be found at the touch of a finger. Being a teacher it is always nice to be able to get new information to use in your classroom. The internet is one place where to selection is always fresh. I went online and went to the search engine Google.com, to get a taste of what they had to offer as far as teacher made websites. As you had said in the assignment there are a lot created by companies, but I was able to find a few that where made by classroom teachers. The first site was a unit put together by two teachers, dealing with the Revolutionary War. The grade level was 4th and the time span for the unit was one month. The teacher did a fantastic job on the web page itself. It was put together very nicely, easy to maneuver through, and to find the information you were looking for. The graphics were also very nice. They had some students work displayed. I felt that it was grade appropriate and the content covered was interesting.
It would have been nice to maybe have included an index and a brief description of the lessons, that way you would not have had to go through the entire lesson to see what was available. They did use reproducibles for some of the activities, but you where not able to bring those up. That would have been nice to see, just even to get an idea of how it was put together. Lastly, they had mentioned some outside sources that where used, but did not give exact titles or site where these could have been found. This would have been helpful for other teachers to be able to locate this information.

This
website was developed for teachers of ESL students; the lessons were for the
adult age students. All of the lessons
were geared for the use of a computer.
For someone that is teaching in this field, this is a great site. The lessons were well thought out. They listed the materials that would be used
for each lesson, they gave step by step instructions on how to deliver each
lesson, and they also discussed preparation time as well as how long each
lesson should last. The site also gave
other links some commercial and some noncommercial that you could visit for
addition help. The site also gave
translations for all different types of cultures. You could choose what the language depending
on the ethnic background of your students.
The computer lesson that you take right on line would actually be great
for beginning elementary age students, for learning correct grammar and
usage. The recommendations I would give,
would be to develop something like this site for all subject areas, not just
ESL. Maybe give some other suggestion
for other content areas. Really neat site
even for those of us that do not teach ESL students. http://iteslj.org/Lessons/Pathak-ComputerClass.html
