Cyberguides

Objective:
Students will create a cyberguide for a literature resource

Introduction:
CyberGuides are supplementary, standards-based, web-delivered units of instruction centered on core works of literature.  They are created by School of California Online Resources for educators (SCORE). With a Cyberguide, students have the opportunity to read a piece of literature, then  complete various activities which incorporate technology and the Internet.   The activities are an interesting way for students to explore higher concepts and make connections to literature without packets of worksheets.

Activity:
Visit the following websites to see fabulous Cyberguides that already exist.  California Technology Assistance Program website has hundreds of Cyberguides, created by teachers at various levels.  These are just a few.  If you would like to see more Cybergudies, go to additional resources below.

Assignment:
For this assignment you will create five sections of a Cyberguide.  You may want to visit the template  for creating a Cyberguide linked below at additional resources.  You can cut and paste areas of the template you want to use and areas you don't!

Five Sections of a Cyberguide:
Introduction:
The introduction should state the name of the book the Cyberguide is created for.  It should also contain questions the students will be able to answer at the completion of the assignment.  Finally, the introduction could contain objectives the students will learn from completing the Cyberguide.

State/County Language Arts Standards:
State the standard -based objectives that your students will be meeting by completing the assignment. (You might want to cut and paste them from your state or county website to save time)

Overview:
The overview should include the length of time the students will need to complete the assignments.  Include how long each task will take.

Description of Materials and Activities:
List what materials the students will need to complete the tasks.  List all books, activity, pages, pencils, scissors, etc.  Also list the resources students will require.  The activities should be listed separately.  State the activity by name and the assignment the students will complete.  Under each activity list the website the students will use as a resource.  You should have three to four activities.

Culminating Activity:
This activity doesn't have to require the Internet.  The students should be able to use their new knowledge about the literature resource they have studied in length.  It should be fun, yet academic.  They should apply their knowledge or synthesis is in some form.
