Vocabulary Terms for My Antonia

 

As we begin reading Willa Cather’s My Antonia, we encounter many new and unusual words.  In the “olden days”, we would have to pull out our monster sized dictionaries and leaf through all those pages to find the definitions of each new and unusual word.  Well, for you lucky young students, those days are over.  For this vocabulary assignment you will visit Merriam-Webster Online, and find the definitions of your new terms at the click of a button.

 

 Assignment:

The following are your new vocabulary terms for the first part of My Antonia-

Visit Merriam-Webster Online and enter the first vocabulary word into the box titled “Merriam-Webster Dictionary” at the top of the page.  You can enter each word manually, or you can copy and paste the word directly into the box.  Click “look it up”, or simply press enter.  Important- Look at the new vocabulary word in context (how it is used in the novel) to determine which definition is most appropriate.  Use the definitions to create your vocabulary flash cards.  Put the new vocab. word on one side, and the definition on the other.  Be sure to complete a new card for each of the eleven terms.
