Newsletters on the Web

Subscribing to newsletters on the web can be a very useful tool for learning and sharing information. In my searches on the web, I have found countless sites that provide great resources for teachers, and more specifically, English teachers. Many of these sites allow you to subscribe (free of charge) to receive their newsletters. I subscribed to four newsletters this semester that pertain directly to teaching and/or teaching English. I was amazed by the amount of useful information I have been sent and I would like to share these great resources with anyone interested. Below are descriptions and links to the two most useful newsletters I have been subscribing to this semester.

Onestopenglish.com- Onestopenglish.com is a wonderful resource for English teachers and their newsletter is outstanding. I receive their newsletter 2 times a month and the information it includes is extremely useful. Each newsletter contains hot links to various instructional sites/resources within Onestopenglish.com. These sites are tremendously useful as they link to everything from lesson plans to specific worksheets that are ready to print out and use. My mid-month October newsletter contained 6 hot links to useful sites on shared lesson plans, vocabulary worksheets, and culture lessons. Another great feature about subscribing for the Onestopenglish newsletter is that when you subscribe, the site allows you to check off other free newsletters/resources you would like to receive from related sites. I have been receiving wonderful newsletters from Reward-English and Macmillan English Dictionary because I was able to subscribe for these resources at the same time. You can update, edit, or cancel your selections at any time by logging in on the “Registration Form” and editing your profile. This is a very useful and convenient newsletter that provides great resources for English teachers. I would definitely recommend this to colleagues. PBS Teacher Previews- PBS provides a wonderful website with outstanding resources for teachers. Their newsletter is very useful and is sent out weekly to notify teachers of upcoming educational shows and events on PBS. The newsletter is organized into subject areas to make it easier for teachers to search within their content area. The newsletter also provides hot links to the PBS site on the specific event they are describing. By following the hot link, you can search within the site to find everything from air times, to lesson plans, to activities, to related subjects. This resource is useful because it updates teachers on upcoming broadcasts and events, and also because the resources (from the links) within the PBS website are exceptional. I would definitely recommend this newsletter to any teacher because the broadcasts and lesson plans are excellent and available for a variety of subjects.
