Avoiding Inappropriate Material on the Internet
What should I do to avoid sites that would make me feel
uncomfortable or would not be appropriate for me?
1. When
searching, use a kid safe site.
2. Always
make sure you spell your search correctly.
3. When
your search results come up, do not click on anything that does not
sound appropriate when you read its description. Ask a teacher if you are not
sure.
What
should I do if something comes up with bad pictures or words?
1. Try
to click the close button on the screen.
2. Tell
an adult immediately (Mrs. Myers, Ms. Newcomb, a parent,
or another adult)
a. Tell
the adult that words or pictures came up on the screen that made you feel
uncomfortable and you turned the screen and the computer off.
3. If
the close button does not work, push the button on the front of the screen
to turn off the screen. (In the classroom)
4. If the close button
does not work, push the button on the right hand
side
of the computer to turn the computer off. (In the computer lab)
5. If you cannot turn
off the computer, cover the screen with your hand
and ask someone to get
an adult.
