The issue of global warming
has been a controversial subject for many years. The purpose of this activity
is for you to get a better understanding as to what global warming is, the
controversy surrounding it, and the different arguments that fuel the debate.
Finally, you will be asked to take a stance on the issue and support your
position with facts.

You will start out your
assignment by reviewing this EPA website devoted to
the issue. Pay particular attention to the sections titled Global Warming (What It
Is) and So What's
the BIG DEAL? You also might find the section on the Greenhouse Effect
informative, especially the animated
movie that illustrates some of the processes involved.

Now that you have a basic
handle on the issues, it is time to explore a little deeper into the
controversy by reading some opposing positions on the issue:
An
argument that the threat is very real

An argument that the
danger is overstated

What are the main points of
conflict? Is there any way to reconcile the differences? It is your turn now.
You are two write a minimum two paragraph position paper on the subject. The
first part is to cover the basics of the issue and what the disagreement is
about. The second part requires you to take a position on the issue and support
it with facts that you found while exploring these websites. Remember, no
answer is wrong as long as you support it!
