EXPLORING LINE GRAPHS ON THE WEB

As we continue with our unit on statistics, we will begin to explore line graphs.  Visit the site:  http://www.mcwdn.org/Graphs/LineGraph.html and learn what line graphs are used for, and how to create them.  Once you have looked over the website thoroughly, go to the Line Graphs Quiz link at the top of the page and complete the assessment.  When you have done this and checked it over, print out a hard copy, and place it in the completed assignments basket.  Finally, complete the following tasks:

1.                        Go to the weather website and type in your zip code.  (21045)

2.                        Then click on the 10-day forecast and write in your math journals what

the high temperatures will be for the next 10 days in our area.

3.                        Take a piece of grid paper and create a line graph to display the

information you have placed in your journal.  Don’t forget T.A.I.L.S.  (Title, Axis, Information, Labels, Scale)

4.                        Using the graph that you have just created to answer the following

questions in your math journal:

a. List the mean, median, mode and range of the data.

b.If there were no scale, would you be able to tell what days the highest and lowest temperatures were on, and how?

c. For the most part, is the data increasing, decreasing, or remaining the same?

d.Why did you choose the scale that you chose?

e. Write one question for a classmate to answer about your graph.

5.                        Turn in your graph and math journal when you have completed and checked

over your work.
