Practicum Assigment

Next week you will begin your first internship in a real classroom.  As an intern in a classroom you will not be just a visitor to that school.  You will be part of a classroom, a team, a school, and a school district.  It is important to go to your school with some knowledge of your school and district.  There are things you can do ahead of time that will help make your experience there more meaningful.

Go to the Carroll County Public Schools web site and spend some time navigating through the site and learning about the district.

Find the link to your school’s web page and go there.  Each school’s web site is a little different.  Spend some time learning about your school.  Then answer the following questions.

  1. What is the principal’s name?  What is the school’s phone number?  You must call the school if you will be absent!

  1. What team is your mentor teacher on at your school? This will be your team as well.  Who are the other members of the team?  You will want to get to know them.

  1. Look at other schools’ web sites and compare them to your school’s site.  Share something about your school’s site that you find interesting and/or helpful.

  1. You will need to introduce yourself to your school community.  How will you introduce yourself to your students?  To the staff at the school?

  1. Write a letter of introduction to the parents of the students in your class. Consider what should be included in the letter so the parents feel comfortable having you in their child’s classroom.

Attach your letter to an email and send it to me prior to our final orientation session.  Do not send the letter home until you have approval by me, your mentor, and the school principal.
