Bookmarks

Objective: Teachers identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.

Introduction: We all know that searching on the web is very overwhelming when there is so much information out there. Sometimes when we are searching, we come across a great site. We can do the usual cut and paste into a new document, but there is a way to save all your favorites, so that you can share them with your students. Just like we use a cute Garfield bookmark to mark the page of a book where we left off, you can do the same thing on the net. It is called Bookmarking. This can be very useful when you are planning your next technology lesson. Instead of loading up all different sites and making your students wait, you can click to your bookmarks and keep that lesson moving. Also, it is great to teach your students to do, so that you are not waiting for them to get to a site. They can also use bookmarks to save sites for research projects. There are many sites that are dedicated to bookmarks. Here, you will learn about a few.

Activity- Think of a subject that you teach in the appropriate grade levels that you could list web sites to aid in your instruction of that subject. An example would be multiplication. Then search that topic and see how many hits you would get.

Assignment: Read the following so you can set up your own bookmarks for the subject you chose. Find 4 top bookmark sites. Tell what their features are and a thorough explanation of why you liked them. Tell how you can use them in your classroom/media center. There are millions of sites, so a helpful search tip is type in "education bookmarks" or "teaching bookmarks," otherwise you will be completely overwhelmed!
