The Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Monarch butterflies are very beautiful and mysterious. As we progress through our unit on a butterfly’s life cycle you will learn about and observe the amazing changes this creature goes through in its lifetime. Visit Mighty Morphing Monarchs to find out what some students observed about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. Then visit A Tiny Life to hear an account of how Devon raised Tiny from a minuscule egg to a magnificent monarch.

After reading, please complete the following activity:

1. Illustrate the life cycle of a monarch butterfly in your science journal.
2. Color the pictures to represent the true colors of each stage.
3. Label each stage of the life cycle.
4. List three interesting facts that you learned from the sites.
