Media Center Policies

 

While in the media center please remember the following things:

  1. Individual student who wish to use the library need to have a pass signed by a teacher.
  2. Students using the library must engage in a meaningful activity.
  3. Students who are loud, boisterous, or disruptive will be sent back to class.
  4. Materials borrowed from the library must be checked out using the appropriate procedure.
  5. Lost or damaged materials are the responsibility of the borrower.
  6. Students are not allowed in the library office area without specific permission from the media specialist or the library aide.
  7. Students requesting equipment or back issues of magazines must obtain them from a member of the library staff.
  8. Students are expected to push in chairs, return materials, and discard trash before leaving the library.
  9. Encyclopedias should be replaced in alphabetical or numerical order.
  10. Magazines must remain in the library and students MAY NOT check them out.
  11. Reference materials may be borrowed on an "overnight" basis.
  12. Students should not eat or drink in the library.
  13. Students assigned to the library must obtain permission before leaving.

Selection of Materials

 

When choosing materials for our media center, we consider the following:

 

*        Overall purpose and quality of the work

*        Age appropriateness of the materials

*        Relevance to the school curriculum

*        Accurate, current and bias-free content

*        Reflective of school community, different viewpoints and the world around us

*        Reviews, awards and reputation of the author
