VISION STATEMENT
For our students, the media center is central to
the learning process. The media center
should be a welcoming place that encourages intellectual growth through
access to a variety of information sources, both print and non-print. It should encourage students to become
independent thinkers by helping them analyze information and communicate
effectively. As the amount of
information increases, the media center must be ready to help the school
community evaluate the validity of these materials. These skills need to be integrated into
the content curriculum so that students may practice them on a regular
basis. At the same time, the media
center should also be a comfortable place where students can pursue the
recreational aspects of literacy in addition to their academic
requirements.
For our faculty, the media center is a valuable resource. As educators, we are
all working together to improve the quality of education for the students
and so the media center should provide teachers with materials that will
support the school curriculum. It
should be a place where teachers are able to collaborate with each other
and the media specialists to devise strategies that meet the needs of
individual students. In addition,
the media center should not be just a place for students to learn, but also
a place where teachers can come for a variety of professional resources as
well.
