Weather Unit for 2nd Grade (Science)

·        Collaborate with another 2nd grade classroom in a different area (possible a different culture).

·        Record weather data each day

·        Email results to class

·        Compare and contrast differences

·        Track changes as they occur in each region

 

Book Club 4th Grade (Reading)

·        Set up keypal within a chat room with several different classroom within the same town or another area

·        Decide on a book that all the classrooms will read

·        Have each student be in a group consisting of one person from each school

·        After reading each chapter have discussion within the chat room with the keypal groups

·        There would have to be a time that coordinates with all the classrooms

 

Explorer Research 5th grade (Social Studies)

·        Coordinate with another classroom in either the same area or a different one

·        Set up partners between the two classrooms

·        Have each pair choose an explorer to gather information about

·        Each day, or two days will be about a particular area; such as, reason for exploration, impact the explorers had on the New World etc. (follow curriculum for both areas)

·        Once each person has gathered information share it with keypal to collaborate the information and decide what is feasible

·        Create a project or paper together online with the information gathered

 

Comparing Prices 3rd Grade (Math & Social Studies)

·        Locate another classroom in another part of the country

·        Locate another classroom in another country

·        Set up keypals and have students research prices of goods and share with one another

·        Use the information with a money unit

·        Addition and subtraction may also be used to show differences in prices

·        Use with the Social Studies curriculum to introduce economics

 

Culture Shock 1st Grade (Social Studies)

·        Set up a keypal with someone in another culture

·        Have students journal to each other about their daily activities

·        Allows the students to compare and contrast the differences in each society

Teaching.com At teaching.com IECC, teachers can utilize email accounts, free of charge. However, you will need to register with teacher.com to be able to access the emails. It is very simple and there are two ways that you can connect with other classrooms. One is subscribing to a mailing list. This allows other teachers to email you with ideas to collaborate with their classroom. The second is to connect through the web site. This alleviates all the emails.
