The links below are a collection of collaborating lessons with other classes to meet an objective. The sites are not in any particular order since many of the sites can be used for many different subjects. These sites are primarily for elementary students, but some may be used for all grades.

Sunrise/Sunset Need assistance with teaching the changes that occur with daylight savings time? This is a great site for collaboration as students graph the changes in the times the sun rises and sets. Students will graph and calculate the photoperiod between January 31 and April 11. They will compare with other classes around the world and try to locate 10 mystery classes. Not only is this a great science activity it also helps with math for elapsed time. Flat Stanley Flat Stanley is a book written by Jeff Brown. It is about Stanley who gets smashed by a bulletin board and can now travel in an envelope and visit the world. Students can visit the world by using this web site. They begin a journal and send it to another participant in another location to complete the journal and return it. Students use global communication to learn about the geographical distance and differences in the world. This can be used in the classroom as an individual assignment or as a group working with others around the globe to learn. Global Grocery List Students can work collaboratively to find out prices of items in a local grocery store. Once they post the prices on this web site they will be able to access list from all around the world. Teachers can use this information for students to participate in many different lessons ranging from math to social studies. Grades 3-5. Digital Earth Students will use geography to help to piece together a digital earth using collaboration with other students all over the world. Students are responsible for gathering information to be posted about their environment. What a great way to learn about the surroundings while comparing them to the others on the web site. Weather Watchers Students will gather data about the weather in their area and post to this site while communicating with others and attempting to understand the weather patterns. This site is great for interpreting real time data, working collaboratively with others around the globe, and developing an understanding of the Earth’s Science systems. Grades K-12. Elephants of Cameroon Learn about the African Elephant and how and why it has become a part of the endangered list. Explore the nation of Cameroon in Africa and participate in discussion groups about the topics that are posted. This is a great learning experience with cooperative learning and interaction. Class Pet Exchange This collaborative Language Arts lesson is for K-3. Students pass along a stuff class pet to another participating classroom. When they receive the pet, each child gets a chance to take it home and write in an on going journal about the experience. After every child has had a turn the pet and journal return home. Students email their partnering class to discuss the journey and experience of the class pet. Creative writing is the objective for this activity. Poet’s Corner All ages can experience collaborative critiquing of poems from around the world. Each month a new theme is presented and students have a month to submit their poems. Once the poems are submitted they are collated into an anthology and then sent back to the participating schools as a file attachment. There is a description of each poem format. Math Trail Students work cooperatively together to create real world math problems and then submit them to the website for others to use. They may also access other students’ ideas around the world to assist in their learning in many concepts of math. The problems are listed in categories for easy accessibility and grade level. Books Without Boundaries Students assist needy schools while learning about their culture and understand the way another civilization exists. There are several projects to choose from. Students may either collect books to be sent to these countries, or for better instruction they may construct their own books to be sent; possibly a combination of the two could be accomplished.
