THE WRITER'S ALMANAC—I can’t imagine trying to teach Writing--or be a student of Writing--without subscribing to The Writer’s Almanac ~Poems, prose, and literary history from Garrison Keillor. Every day, a newsletter, and in it, the poems, prose and literary history mentioned above. The site is beautifully and logically laid out in a brilliant display of form and function. You can search poem titles or authors, and search individual poems by title, author or date, search the general archives, get the podcast, and listen to each day in audio format, as well as quick-jump sharing function via social networking sites like Digg, Delicious and Facebook (I often share and discuss the WA on Facebook, myself). At the bare minimum, every day is a new adventure: something to read, and some literary history. Direct link to newsletter sign-up: http://mail.publicradio.org/content/506927/forms/twa_signup.htm. CONNECTENG--Newsletter of Web English Teacher : WebEng. This newsletter is only delivered once every few weeks (as of 10/4/09, it was last published on 9/19/09), but it is a rich resource. It is written by Carla Beard, who created the site Web English Teacher. This is not a collection of material from the site itself, but is comprised of Beard’s reviews and recommendations of other sites, resources and reads for English Teachers. It’s tabbed into two sections, “Sites to check out,” and “Just for fun.” In one stop I was clued into a month of writing-prompts (http://teachers.net/gazette/wordpress/james-wayne/a-month-of-writing-prompts), acquainted myself with Google Lit Trips (http://googlelittrips.com/GoogleLit/Home.html), and observed the the absolute funniest 404 page I’ve ever seen (http://econsultancy.com/blog/4557-12-brilliant-404-pages). Small, infequent newsletter, but meaty and with great resources. Date visited—9/27/09
